About a month ago, I spotted a hawk during my walk. Two weeks later, I saw another one flying along the same path I was traveling. I walk the same route in my neighborhood seven times a week while listening to podcasts and audiobooks. Occasionally, I record a video to share on social media, calling it "My Walk and Creative Thought Talk." I enjoy sharing my thoughts with my followers during these walks. This time, on my way back home, I spotted a large bird sitting on a warning sign, just looking at me. It was a striking moment that made me pause and reflect.
At first, I was taken aback and stepped off the path to keep some distance between myself and the bird. I wasn't sure what it was or if it was something that wanted to attack me or just have me stay away. I then took a picture of the bird and went on my way, still wondering what in the world this bird was.
Initially, I thought it might be an owl, thinking how strange it was to be out and about on a bright day since owls are nocturnal. I went home and started to look up what it means to see an owl during the day and only found negative connotations, which made me freak out a bit. I then shared the picture of the bird with a loved one, and she mentioned it was a hawk. Knowing it wasn't an owl but a hawk intrigued me even more. I delved into the meaning behind the hawk’s presence and what it could signify, especially when it crosses your path repeatedly. Notice in the picture how the hawk is strategically sitting on a warning sign. Did that mean I was being warned that something is about to happen or change? Or did it mean a warning to be prepared for what is to come in my current journey?
To my surprise, the meaning of a hawk's presence is that I need to prepare for a big change coming my way. Hawks are often seen as messengers and symbols of vision, insight, and intuition. Their keen eyesight represents the ability to see things clearly and gain a higher perspective on a situation. Seeing a hawk might suggest that you need to look at things more closely or from a different angle. Known for their focus and determination when hunting, hawks symbolize the need to concentrate on your goals and pursue them with determination and precision. The hawk's presence can be a reminder to stay focused and determined in your pursuits.
This rather excited me because that is exactly what I have been seeking—some kind of change in my life since my downward spiral last October when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Although I have made significant lifestyle changes to my already healthy life, I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing or even enough of those things. Seeing this hawk and understanding what it means has given me a glimpse of hope that things will change for the better. I am not only looking at change in my health but also in other aspects of my life, including stronger relationships with loved ones, friends, and most importantly, the one with myself.
So, today I was revisited by the hawk whose path I crossed on my walk today as it flew over me and along the path that I take daily. I again delved into the meaning of this and found that it means I am being told by the Universe that I am following the correct path, which only encourages me to keep going. To intertwine this finding with my current state of health and wellness, I believe that all the lifestyle and habit changes I made are clearly the right path for me. I may not be seeing the results as fast as I would like to, but now I am able to continue to be consistent and persistent with my daily habits, knowing the results will come when they are ready. I need to trust the process and not quit. If I feel that I need to challenge myself a bit more, then that I will do. After all, it is when we move out of our comfort zone and take the challenge that changes happen.
My favorite quote by Mahatma Gandhi is, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." This timeless wisdom reminds us that real change begins within ourselves. Our perspective of the world shifts when we choose to make positive changes in our own lives. I've personally experienced this transformation when I decided to alter my habits. These changes not only benefited me but also inspired those around me. When others see the positive results of our personal growth, they are often encouraged to follow suit, creating a ripple effect of positive change in the broader community.
