From Consistency to Boundaries: My Journey into 2025

As we welcome 2025, I’m excited to share that my word for this year is Boundaries. But before diving into that, let’s take a moment to reflect on 2024—a year that taught me so much through my chosen word, Consistency.

When I selected “consistency” as my word for 2024, I had no idea how much it would permeate every aspect of my life. It became a guiding principle that helped me stay on track, even when life threw curveballs like sickness, sore muscles, injuries, family commitments, or, let’s be honest, those days when laziness crept in, and motivation felt far away. Despite the ups and downs, that one simple word nudged me back on my path time and again.

By choosing consistency as my life motto, I discovered its transformative power over my physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. It all came full circle on January 1, 2025, during my Kundalini Workshop to Clear and Balance the Chakras. Midway through the session, I experienced a profound “aha” moment that I immediately shared with my students. Not to boast, but to offer a real-life example of what’s possible when we show up consistently for ourselves.

So, what was this “aha” moment? I was able to get into full lotus pose—crossing my legs and bringing each foot to the opposite hip crease. While this pose had once been a breeze for me, I’d struggled to achieve it for most of 2024. The stiffness and joint pain I experienced were partly due to a medication I began taking to prevent a recurrence of breast cancer. Its side effects were challenging, and there were moments when even simple yoga poses felt painful and frustrating.

I vividly remember one morning after my daily online yoga class. My teacher asked how we were feeling, and I couldn’t hold back my emotions. I had a complete meltdown, sharing how difficult and painful my practice had become. My teacher’s response was a heartfelt prayer for strength and perseverance. That day, I realized that consistency doesn’t always mean perfection; it means showing up, even when it’s hard. And that small step—that willingness to keep going—made all the difference.

Consistency showed up for me in more ways than just my yoga practice. It rippled through every layer of my life, helping me create the best version of myself. Instead of dwelling on what didn’t work or what I didn’t achieve, I celebrated the tiny, daily shifts that added up to big changes over time. Thank you, 2024, for teaching me that consistency is the magic fairy dust that helps us grow and reach goals we didn’t even know we were aiming for.

Now, let’s talk about 2025 and my word—Boundaries. I chose this word because, while consistency helped me stay on track, I realized I often prioritized others at the expense of my own well-being. Too many times, I rescheduled personal wellness appointments to accommodate someone else’s needs. I’ve always loved feeling needed—it made me feel worthy and important. But over time, I noticed that neglecting my own self-care left me depleted, overwhelmed, and, frankly, not myself.

As a yoga teacher and health and wellness coach, I often remind my students and clients that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Yet here I was, running on empty. I’d become cranky, weepy, and quick to complain—traits that didn’t align with who I truly am. It became clear that I needed to practice what I preach. For me, self-care isn’t about indulgence; it’s about replenishing my mind, body, and spirit. It’s reading a good book, practicing yoga, meditating, journaling, or even taking a guilt-free, long, hot shower.

This year, I’m recommitting to scheduling self-care as non-negotiable appointments on my calendar. If someone invites me to an event or asks for help, I’ll check my schedule first. If it conflicts with my self-care time, I’ll politely decline, saying, “I have prior plans.” No excuses or explanations needed. Boundaries allow us to honor ourselves without guilt. It’s a lesson I’ve shared with my coaching clients, and now it’s time to fully embrace it in my own life.

So here’s to 2025 and Boundaries: giving myself permission to say no when necessary, and yes to the things that truly nourish me. What about you? What’s your word for 2025, and why did you choose it? I’d love to hear your story.
